Distributed by the Accelonix Group across the Benelux, UK & Ireland, France, and China, the XRHCount from VCcount has been steadily gaining recognition in the electronics manufacturing sector. Almé, a respected electronics subcontractor based near Annecy, France, recently completed a comprehensive evaluation of the XRHCount to assess its performance in real-world production settings. The objective was to compare this solution against other available market alternatives, focusing on speed, versatility, and ease of use.
As a reminder, The XRHCount allows for the counting of components in various formats, including MSL (Moisture Sensitivity Level) bags, without opening them, even when desiccants are present. This is particularly useful for manufacturers dealing with moisture-sensitive components, such as semiconductors, where any packaging breach could compromise the integrity of the product. In production environments with stringent humidity control standards, VCcount’s X-ray counter ensures component quality while streamlining the counting process.
Counting Speed
During the assessment, the XRHCount showcased exceptional performance, particularly in terms of speed. The team noted that the device could count a reel in just 8 seconds—twice as fast as a competing machine, which took 16 seconds for the same task. Furthermore, when counting four reels simultaneously, the XRHCount completed the process in 10 to 12 seconds, while the competing solution required 24 seconds.
Versatility and Efficiency
Almé also highlighted the XRHCount’s ability to accommodate various component formats, including both small and large reels, trays, tubes (sticks), and ESD bags. This flexibility enabled Almé to streamline their operations without requiring multiple machines. Additionally, the large tray of the system was praised for its capacity to handle very large reels or several tubes at once, enhancing overall productivity.
User-Friendliness and Ergonomics
The XRHCount’s user-friendly design was another standout feature, particularly valued in an EMS environment. The integrated barcode scanner was noted for its ease of use, allowing for fast and reliable component tracking without unnecessary delays. Moreover, the adjustable screen, which can be positioned either on the side or directly in front of the operator based on their preference, contributed to improved ergonomics. This adjustability allows users to adapt the machine to their working conditions, reducing fatigue and enhancing comfort, particularly in production settings where operators rotate frequently.
Benchmark Results and Stock Management Integration
The XRHCount was well received by the Almé team, particularly for its speed, versatility in handling different component formats, and overall ease of use. The integrated barcode scanner and adjustable screen boosted both ergonomics and efficiency, offering a level of flexibility highly valued in demanding production environments.
Although some minor suggestions for improvement were made, no critical issues were identified during the evaluation. Almé commended the XRHCount’s performance, especially its seamless integration with their “Beegest” management system, improving their logistics, stock management, and long-term inventory control.
